Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial Service 2011

Fallen Firefighters Memorial 2011

Last Post

On March 7, 2011, hundreds of BC firefighters joined together on the lawns of the Legislature in Victoria to commemorate the untimely passing of 14 of our comrades. All of them died from cancer, an occupational hazard that was recognized as a work-related injury in 2005.

Here’s a link to the Times-Colonist newspaper article, that tells a little more about the story behind the ceremony, the first one to be held here in BC. Here’s a link to the Vancouver Sun’s photo album of the event.

The Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services Band was proud to attend and to perform ceremonial and background music for the occasion. Here are a few of our own photographs from the ceremony, the first few taken by fire department photographers, and the rest taken by band members showing a behind-the-scenes perspective.

We also hope we won’t have to attend another one of these for a very, very long time.
