VFRS celebrates 125 years since the founding of the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services, and remembers those lost in the Great Fire of Gastown (1886)

New York, New York

Written by Fred Ebb (Words) and John Kander, arranged by Jerry Nowak.

Performed by the full Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services Swing Band as a tribute to New York on our own disaster commemoration day.

(Whooshing noise in the background is a beautiful, vintage steam engine displayed by the Victoria Fire Department! We think it adds character to the audio track. Listen closely and you’ll hear the whistle blow on a number of songs, too!)

Date: June 12, 2011
Event: 125th Anniversary of the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services
Place: Gastown, Vancouver, BC
Band: Full Swing Band

NOTE: If you have problems with the audio player, you probably need to upgrade to the latest version of Flash, which you can do for free, here. If you *still* can’t play it, go here for a QuickTime version of this song. And if you have a Windows 7 phone, read the note at the bottom of the QuickTime page…
